Yahoo to Trillian: Talk to the hand - News - ZDNet
Thursday, June 24th, 2004Yep, Yahoo blocked Trillian users once again. Yahoo on Wednesday began blocking Cerulean Studios' Trillian software from communicating with its instant messaging service in its latest step to fence its popular client from third-party integrators.
Beginning at about 6 p.m. Wednesday, Yahoo changed its instant messaging language to prevent third-party services, such as Trillian, from accessing its service. Like previous statements, the company said the block is meant as a pre-emptive measure against spammers from its Yahoo Messenger service.

There is no use to resist, you will be assimilated…
Thursday, June 24th, 2004Microsoft Patents Borg Technology
Researchers at Microsoft have devised a technique to assimilate the human body as a conduit for consumer electronics. How did Microsoft accomplish this feat? Electrodes attached to body use the skin as a system bus to transmit data and as a conductive medium to distribute power between devices.

Thursday, June 24th, 2004Congress Goes After Peer to Peer
I haven't been taking some proposed new copyright legislation very seriously, mainly because it's logically absurd on its face. But the “Inducing Infringement of Copyrights Act of 2004″ (PDF) seems to be moving so quickly that we have to pay attention now.
This bill, the stated purpose of which is to criminalize actions that might “induce” copyright infringement, doesn't just overrule the Sony Betamax case, which gave us the right to tape TV shows to watch later. It would turn people offering totally legitimate technology into criminals, if what they offered could also be used for infringing purposes.
Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch is cloaking the bill as “child protection.” It is nothing of the sort. It is a Hollywood-sponsored attack on fundamental freedom, and on innovation. (Ernie Miller deconstructs Hatch's floor speech introducing the bill. See also Lessig's comments.)
Silicon Valley's leaders are raging about moves to require the expensing of stock options on income statements. If they don't do something to head off this legislation, they will be giving the copyright cartel a veto power over everything they make in the future.
One of the most disappointing elements of this situation is the support from Sen. Patrick Leahy, the Vermont Democrat who once questioned the cartel's control-freakery. Now he's Hollywood's hand-maiden, and this seems to be why.
Here's a list of the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which presumably will have to vote on this before it goes to the full Senate. I strongly urge you to contact one or more of them, particularly if you live in a state where one of your senators is a member.
This isn't just bad legislation. It's downright dangerous. Stay tuned.

BMW + IPOD = LOVE
Tuesday, June 22nd, 2004Now I don't own BMW, nor do I own IPOD, but I'm thinking of getting both since -> BMW Integrates iPod with Car Stereo
Clive Owen will be pleased; BMW and Apple today unveiled the first adapter that directly interfaces the iPod with a car stereo system. By simply attaching an iPod inside the glove compartment, BMW drivers can control their music libraries through the car's audio system and steering wheel. The BMW iPod Adapter can be installed in 2002 or later models, including the Mini Cooper. It supports up to five unique BMW playlists, which simulate the car's CD changer.
